Where surges come from
Lightning and utility switching cause the big spikes. Smaller, frequent surges come from inside the home, as air conditioners, refrigerators, and other large appliances cycle on and off.
Why power strips aren't enough
A power strip only protects what's plugged into it, and its protection wears down over time without any warning. It does nothing for your AC, your appliances, or anything hardwired.
Protection at the panel
A whole-home surge protector installs at your main panel and guards every circuit at once. It handles larger surges that a strip can't absorb, and installation usually takes under two hours.
Grounding matters
A surge protector sends excess voltage to ground, so it's only as good as your grounding. We check it as part of every install.
Two layers are best
For computers and AV equipment, keep a quality surge strip or battery backup in place. The whole-home unit does the heavy lifting, and the strip handles the rest.
